Guy Fawkes - Money up in Smoke

Fireworks

WALHT use the structure of a recount to share an experience

Guy Fawkes - Money up in smoke!

It was round about 6:30 most of the people on my street were doing fireworks except for my family. Why? Because my parents thought it was burning money, really burning money I thought to myself. As soon as the sky turned dark the fireworks began to shoot out into the air.

My sister and I stared out of the curtains with confused faces wondering why our family wasn’t out there celebrating like our neighbours. As we sat in our lounge while other families were outside lighting fireworks and tried to watched the t.v. our viewing was constantly interrupted by the sound of  fireworks,  every time the commercial break was on. My sister moaned out the window as we watched yearning for the  fireworks to stop, so that she could watch the t.v.

Every minute was taken by the loud noises of fireworks shooting into the air. My sister started talking about how when she went  back to school everyone would be talking about about how they were out playing with fireworks. Every now and then we would hear silence.
“It stopped”my sister said. We both looked at each other for a second. Then out of nowhere a huge firework burst out into the air from the neighbours behind us.
“Ahhh”. My sister shouted out in shock, both my older sister and I laughed for a good minute at her.

Hours went by and Mana and I decided it was time to go to bed. And so we did. It was exactly 2:30 in the morning everyone was sound asleep... And out the blue “BOOM” we heard a loud noise that woke the entire household. I heard my dad’s voice,  “Who the heck was doing fireworks this early?”

This final thought floated in my mind and then I was asleep.

St Bernadette

St Bernadette was a Saint chosen from me by my mother. The reason why Saint Bernadette was chosen as my Saint name is because she was my mother’s middle name and that she inspired others through her inspirational quotes. She was also humble, caring and very faithful to others that she started to see visions of Mother Mary during her lifetime. She was also known as Our Lady of Lourdes.

Making Decisions

Making Decisions

In the playground a student is being deliberately excluded from a group because the ‘leader’ in the group has decided he/she doesn’t belong. Akenesi is ‘in’ with the group at the moment.  What should Akenesi do?
Akanesi could choose….

1.
A. List Options:
1 She could stand for the girl/boy

2 She could leave the situation alone

3 Welcome he/she into the group

B Say what is right or wrong about each option.
Option 1
The first option listed is that it is right to stand up for the person who is going to be excluded from the group.
Option 2
It may be a right or wrong answer for Akanesi because this type of situation might put her in a spot where she thinks she has to decide on where the person should come into the group.
Option 3
It might be the right option to welcome her into the group because they don’t know who this person is and what she/he might bring knowledge.

C.  Say what would be the consequences of each option for everyone concerned.

1. The students in the group might be a little uncomfortable about having to not decided who comes into the group. This can also effect the leader in the scenario because she/he might think it’s their decision to make who come into the groups.

2. In this case Akanesi might feel like she has been put on the spot to decided who comes into the group. But we also have the leader who thinks its best the this student (she/he) is her decision to make.

3. If the leader was to allow the person enter the group this might be a wrong decision to make. But again this has a say as well to the whole group including Akanesi.

D. Say what values you think lie behind each option and tick those that reflect gospel values -  the values of Jesus.

1. Faithfulness is what I see in Akanesi because she wants to stand up to the leader and show that it would be a good decision to let the person in.

2. She shows that she is trustworthy and ignorance that she would guide the person if she/he into understanding the people in the group.

3. She also shows that she is respectful of the decision she would make choosing groups.

E. Say which option you would have chosen and why.

1.  The first option. Because in my opinion it wouldn’t feel right leaving this girl/boy out of the group. And a decision that the whole group should make together as a team.
