George our hero

WALHT: In reading this article I have been learning to combine close  reading and inference skills to analyse text to learn more about the qualities of heroes .

George is the hero of the article. He had put his life at risk to help 5 children from getting bitten. Injuries he received from the Pit Bull Terriers were so severe that he had to be put down. He is remembered with a statue in the middle of the town and his owner was rewarded with 3 medals in honor for George which  included a medal of honors from a former marine.

George, a small Jack - Russell dog, was strong and fit was a lifesaver, he showed bravery and courage when he distracted the larger dogs to allow the children to escape.
What did George believe in?

George was confident that getting the Bull Terriers to focus on him rather than the children would keep the children safe.  He believed that it was his job to do this. He was determined to protect the children, all cost!

A statue of George still stands today in the town square of Manaia in Taranaki, with the medals dangling around his neck.
