Guy Fawkes - Money up in Smoke

Fireworks

WALHT use the structure of a recount to share an experience

Guy Fawkes - Money up in smoke!

It was round about 6:30 most of the people on my street were doing fireworks except for my family. Why? Because my parents thought it was burning money, really burning money I thought to myself. As soon as the sky turned dark the fireworks began to shoot out into the air.

My sister and I stared out of the curtains with confused faces wondering why our family wasn’t out there celebrating like our neighbours. As we sat in our lounge while other families were outside lighting fireworks and tried to watched the t.v. our viewing was constantly interrupted by the sound of  fireworks,  every time the commercial break was on. My sister moaned out the window as we watched yearning for the  fireworks to stop, so that she could watch the t.v.

Every minute was taken by the loud noises of fireworks shooting into the air. My sister started talking about how when she went  back to school everyone would be talking about about how they were out playing with fireworks. Every now and then we would hear silence.
“It stopped”my sister said. We both looked at each other for a second. Then out of nowhere a huge firework burst out into the air from the neighbours behind us.
“Ahhh”. My sister shouted out in shock, both my older sister and I laughed for a good minute at her.

Hours went by and Mana and I decided it was time to go to bed. And so we did. It was exactly 2:30 in the morning everyone was sound asleep... And out the blue “BOOM” we heard a loud noise that woke the entire household. I heard my dad’s voice,  “Who the heck was doing fireworks this early?”

This final thought floated in my mind and then I was asleep.

St Bernadette

St Bernadette was a Saint chosen from me by my mother. The reason why Saint Bernadette was chosen as my Saint name is because she was my mother’s middle name and that she inspired others through her inspirational quotes. She was also humble, caring and very faithful to others that she started to see visions of Mother Mary during her lifetime. She was also known as Our Lady of Lourdes.

Making Decisions

Making Decisions

In the playground a student is being deliberately excluded from a group because the ‘leader’ in the group has decided he/she doesn’t belong. Akenesi is ‘in’ with the group at the moment.  What should Akenesi do?
Akanesi could choose….

1.
A. List Options:
1 She could stand for the girl/boy

2 She could leave the situation alone

3 Welcome he/she into the group

B Say what is right or wrong about each option.
Option 1
The first option listed is that it is right to stand up for the person who is going to be excluded from the group.
Option 2
It may be a right or wrong answer for Akanesi because this type of situation might put her in a spot where she thinks she has to decide on where the person should come into the group.
Option 3
It might be the right option to welcome her into the group because they don’t know who this person is and what she/he might bring knowledge.

C.  Say what would be the consequences of each option for everyone concerned.

1. The students in the group might be a little uncomfortable about having to not decided who comes into the group. This can also effect the leader in the scenario because she/he might think it’s their decision to make who come into the groups.

2. In this case Akanesi might feel like she has been put on the spot to decided who comes into the group. But we also have the leader who thinks its best the this student (she/he) is her decision to make.

3. If the leader was to allow the person enter the group this might be a wrong decision to make. But again this has a say as well to the whole group including Akanesi.

D. Say what values you think lie behind each option and tick those that reflect gospel values -  the values of Jesus.

1. Faithfulness is what I see in Akanesi because she wants to stand up to the leader and show that it would be a good decision to let the person in.

2. She shows that she is trustworthy and ignorance that she would guide the person if she/he into understanding the people in the group.

3. She also shows that she is respectful of the decision she would make choosing groups.

E. Say which option you would have chosen and why.

1.  The first option. Because in my opinion it wouldn’t feel right leaving this girl/boy out of the group. And a decision that the whole group should make together as a team.
___________________________________________________________________________
Summary
Sometimes in our lifetime we will face challenges which will mostly be about making good decisions. With these decisions it can affect us in such ways we might not imagine. It can impact our lives sometimes but that can be because of some situations where you might make the wrong move or decision.

AMF Bowling

We arrived at the entrance to the bowling place where my dad dropped us off. When we entered the AMF,  It was filled with laughter and the sound of bowling balls dropping as people let go of them and that made contact with the pins at the end of the lanes.  Added to this there was also the sound from  arcade games going off.

The first thing we did was go to the counter to pay and get our bowling shoes on. Once we got our shoes, we headed towards  lane 19.  Our names started to pop up on the t.v sized screen above us. It was a nice surprise to find that Natalia ( a class mate from last year) Brielle her little sister  and her two older brothers were playing next to us. Then Max and I went back to get the bowling balls. We all had a turn and Max was in lead followed by my sister me Alerton or as the screen had spelt it as Alerston and Mana. A few minutes later we started to get a little hungry so my older sister went and order some chips for after the game. Time went by and we were all up to our  9th row. Somehow I came to be first in the lead and max behind me. “Come on guys” my sister shouted as she called us to the table at the back to come some eat chips. Alerton and I went back to playing the game for all three.

I was up first playing as “Amelia” as the ball rolled down I was hoping that it wouldn't strike 10 pins aaaaaaaand “YES” as I shouted for joy. On the last game I played as myself and struck out 10 pins making me have 100 points on top of everyone. Then after bowling we went back and changed our shoes. As we talk for sometime my sister talked to us about doing this every second week but different places. Then after returning our shoes we  walked to burger king because max was craving their ice cream sundae. When we were inside burger king we order all the same sundae’s except for Max, of course who only order the large black forest sundae. We ate our sundaes and talked more about where to go to next while we talked my sister started to call my dad to come and pick us up. Time went by and our dad still wasn't here so we went and sat outside and waited, a few seconds later our dad arrived.

As we drove back to our uncle’s house my sister and dad started to talk about their favorite uncle “Ronald” who always came over to our house to sleepover. Once we got to their house we said our goodbye’s and told them we would see them in 2 weeks time. After dropping off our nephew’s we headed into town because our mum was finishing work soon.
“Beep”
“Beep”
As the cars went by we were stuck in traffic for quite sometime because roadworks were happening up ahead. We finally arrived at the waterfront Amelia,Mana and I got out of the car to go to the slides while our dad went and payed for the parking. After going on the slide went across the street  because my sister wanted to go sit next to the water. As we waited we walked around the streets exploring and taking pictures a few minutes later our mum came out looking for us. We all got back into the car and went back home.

George our hero

WALHT: In reading this article I have been learning to combine close  reading and inference skills to analyse text to learn more about the qualities of heroes .

George is the hero of the article. He had put his life at risk to help 5 children from getting bitten. Injuries he received from the Pit Bull Terriers were so severe that he had to be put down. He is remembered with a statue in the middle of the town and his owner was rewarded with 3 medals in honor for George which  included a medal of honors from a former marine.

George, a small Jack - Russell dog, was strong and fit was a lifesaver, he showed bravery and courage when he distracted the larger dogs to allow the children to escape.
What did George believe in?

George was confident that getting the Bull Terriers to focus on him rather than the children would keep the children safe.  He believed that it was his job to do this. He was determined to protect the children, all cost!

A statue of George still stands today in the town square of Manaia in Taranaki, with the medals dangling around his neck.
